I read an article in my of my magazines last week about disconnecting for a day, or weekend. I thought about it and realized it had been a VERY long time since I had done this without being out of town. Seems that I always find time to get online at least once a day. Usually constant throughout the day, but if not at least for a few minutes in the morning and/or before bed. I check my email, facebook and my weight loss support group board.
Reading the article encouraged me to challenge myself. I'm not feeling the need/interest in doing it for a whole weekend at this point, but I've decided that two days/week would probably do me good. I decided yesterday would be the first day. J had no idea I was even doing this until around 2pm.
He let me sleep in (after I was up multiple times with a restless Bean Saturday night) and he made waffles. He and Bean watched TV while they ate and I finished reading Wednesday Wars. It's a cute book about a kid growing up during the Vietnam War that G had read as a class project. After breakfast we went out to organize the garage for a little while. Then I took the boys to a movie. When we got back G watched B while us parents went shopping. The Lowes card was begging to be used! We got bins for the garage, a shelving unit and a new faucet for the kitchen! Not super exciting for the kids, but we had fun. Decided while we were out we shouldn't let a free coupon that was expiring go to waste and we stopped in for a snack. =)
The garage was waiting for us when we got home. Jason finished up in there and then threw the ball with G for awhile. B wasn't too happy about having to come in with me during that, but someone had to cook dinner and G deserved the 1:1 time. My stomach revolted while I was cooking dinner. I was able to get everything ready, but then I spent the rest of the night out of commission in my room. I'm about 1/4 of the way through Montana Sky by Nora Roberts. I discovered I've read it before, but I'm still enjoying it and not remembering all the details...
Having a busy day, and getting sick made disconnecting easier. I'm sure some other days are going to require more will power to stay off the laptop, but I'm sure I can do it.
