12 Weeks

I'm sure good many of my readers already know, or have guessed our good news. And I'm sure you understand my "need" to wait till 12 weeks to share. Since I'm catching you up on the past 12 weeks this will be a long one. But I will do my best with shorter ones later!

We found out we were expecting early in the morning on January 8th. We'd already been trying for a few months by then. I know it's not long to many couples, but any amount of waiting is an eternity when you're going through it. =) I had set the test out the night before with instructions to Jason to make sure I took it before he left (which I hadn't felt the need to do the other months). 5:45 rolls around and he says don't you need to go take the test? I told him I already had, and it wasn't good news. He got a confused look, went to the bathroom, and came back. No, I hadn't taken the test yet. What I had was a very realistic disappointing dream. Oh goodness! So I just up and go work that magic lil stick. It was positive within seconds. Then stopped on the way to work to buy some that weren't from the dollar store. Hahaha. With my history I was really nervous the first two weeks. Just waiting constantly for the disappointment. Luckily I was wrong. Jason was right when he kept telling me to stop stressing that everything was going to be okay!

I started spotting at 7 weeks and called the doctor. An exam and ultrasound (see right) showed
everything to be as it should be, and my "first appt" was kept for the following Thursday.

Once home I started evaluation everything I was taking/ingesting. The only questionable item I could find was my tea. I e-mail Chris (you know, my brother in med school) the ingredients and asked him to look into since I found so much conflicting information on
the internet. He forwarded it on to one of his professors. The next Wednesday he got back to me. The "pregnancy tea" I had bought at the grocery store contained not one but two ingredients that were not helping me. One is a knows inducer, the other a known abortant. Both boxes went it the trash.

Feb 5th was Gmans 10th birthday. We woke up early and went to Krispy Kreme for breakfast (they give you a free dozen originals on your bday). Then dropped him off at school. At 9am we headed back to the dr office. She did another exam and ultrasound (see left) and said everything still looked great. Since the spotting hadn't increased or been accompanied with cramping she said everything seemed ok, but to call her if I noticed any changes. (With 72 hours of stopping the tea I stopped spotting and nothing since! Yay!) She's given us an official due date of September 17th, but if we don't change our minds about a repeat c-section she will schedule us for delivery on September 11th.

After the appt Jason went to work, and I went to get cupcakes for Gmans class. He was excited when I got to the school to pass those out to his classmates. After school he walked home with his friend Malik and they got to play all afternoon. We had planned on going out for dinner, but he decided it would be more fun to have Malik stay for sketti & just rent a movie. So we did.

Then Sat the 7th was my bday. We went to Joe's Farm Grill ($10 off your bill on your bday) for breakfast. Then Gman had an outdoors survival skills class for Cub Scouts. That was fun they learned all sorts of stuff, including how to start a fire using lint from the dryer, or steel wool. Crazy stuff.
For lunch we went to Joe's BBQ (free Meal on your bday) where I ate WAY too much food. It's hard getting used to eating such small meals.

That evening instead of going out for a steak dinner (again free meal on your bday if you join the Black Angus e-mail club) I spent the evening on the couch not feeling so hot. Gma stopped by to say hi and give me my card. She also had a box for Gman from my Mom that had been misdelivered. He loved his presents and I was surprised to find a few for me in there too. Yay to her feeding my purse addiction!

Today is our 12 weeks, and we got to see the doctor again, and we got to hear the heartbeat for the first time. I have it on a WAV file if you want to hear it I can e-mail text it to you. I tried to post it on here, but I just can't figure it out.
I feel pretty lucky. During the first trimester with Gman I remember throwing up a minimum of three or four times a day morning noon & night. Plus being soo very sensitive to almost any
scent. I also remember gaining soo much weight. So far this time aroundthat's been different. For the most part I've only had minor morning queasyness, with it sometimes being a little stronger in the evenings. And while I've already grown out of most of my pants, I've only gained 3 pounds on the scale. Thank goodness for losing that 25 lbs in 2008. I'm only supposed to gain 15 lbs this time around, and I'm right on track to meet that goal for now!
One part that is the same is meat. I remember sitting around one afternoon at home (home being my moms house) and my stepdad came home from work with McDonalds. I hadn't kept much down that day, so I was pretty hungry. He offered me the "extra" TRIPLE cheeseburger he had. I was not a huge meat eater and had never even considered eating one before, but for some reason that sounded soooo good. I'm finding the same thing this time around. We've gotten to the point that we ate red meat maybe once or twice per YEAR. And now I could eat it daily. We finally did get out for that free steak dinner and it was just FANTASTIC!! Hamburgers and steaks just always sound good right now.

Oh, and today we also went to the dentist before we went to the doctor. While we both only saw the hygenist, neither one of them saw signs of any cavities in me or Gman! And that included her review of his X-rays. Yay! Last time we went in he had one, and I had 3. And the appointments being so close together allowed him to be at the Dr to hear the heartbeat with us. I love being able to include him in things like that as I'm sure there will lots of jealous stages coming up as he has to get used to sharing us with another sibling. I think the first sign I've noticed was when we got in the car after the appt. He asked if we could please not talk about the heartbeat with him anymore, because it was disgusting and making him gag a little. He's been fantastic so far, and I'm sure will continue to be. He's excited about getting a lil sibling here, but I know it'll take some getting used to too...

So here's me at 12 weeks.
