Here's what Wikipedia has to say about this holiday: Labor Day in the United States is a holiday celebrated on the first Monday in September. It is a celebration of the American labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of their country.
Labor Day was promoted by the Central Labor Union and the Knights of Labor, who organized the first parade in New York City. After the Haymarket Massacre, which occurred in Chicago on May 4, 1886, U.S. President Grover Cleveland feared that commemorating Labor Day on May 1 could become an opportunity to commemorate the affair. Thus, in 1887, it was established as an official holiday in September to support the Labor Day that the Knights favored.[1]
The equivalent holiday in Canada, Labour Day, is also celebrated on the first Monday of September. In many other countries (more than 80 worldwide), "Labour Day" is synonymous with, or linked with, International Workers' Day, which occurs on May 1.
Back to our week. We didn't really 'do' much. It was a good week though.
Monday~ ODS made dinner. He picked Loaded Cauliflower Casserole. He had to adjust the recipe a bit because we only had one head of cabbage. It was super tasty and will be a repeated when we get cauliflower. Everyone snarfed!
Tuesday~ I needed a quick clean up dinner because we went to see the new TMNT movie. The boys LOVED it. Fun times. I used organic whole wheat noodles, Morning Star Farms Meatballs and some leftver generic red sauce. Sprinkled with cheese from the spinach ravioli from Costco. Yum!

Wednesday~ Last winter DH talked a friend of his into moving up here and working with him. They finally got settled in their new place right before I headed out to OR on our big summer trip. We never had time to celebrate them being here so Wednesday we finally got together and went out for pizza buffet. DH picked a place that had a separate room so it was nice to let the kids have some space to roam as we chatted after eating.
Thursday~ Another new recipe I am super excited to add to our rotation. I covered whole wheat organic pasta with a homemade Roasted Red Pepper Sauce. I was lucky enough to have carrots from our CSA, and got some super cheap red peppers since they were getting wrinkled. I love how versatile the sauce will be by just changing up the spices a little.
Friday~ Costco had this new organic mac and cheese last time we went. I mixed one of each of the two flavors together with some canned Tuna. I had raw veg on the side. Easy and yum. Since we got back from vacation we've reinstated eating dinner at the table except for on Friday Night Movie Night. I love it. Last night we enjoyed dinner while introducing the boys to Turner & Hooch. ODS laughed a few times. YDS said he didn't like it, but he only talked through 1/4 or so of it though.
Saturday~ DH made pancakes for breakfast, we had FFYS lunch and did a potluck dinner at our CSA farm for dinner. I made a sauce with some tomatoes from a friends garden, roasted some CSA zucc to go in it and did a pasta bake with some organic sketti.
Sunday~ We haven't done a breakfast ride in awhile. We decided to adventure out to a new donut shop in town. Get our indulgence meal in without feeling too guilty. We grabbed lunch on the way to our hotel staycation. Love when the local hotels run specials to fill the rooms. We enjoyed the pool and cable television as we said good-bye to summer. Dinner was Subway.
